My name is Captain Garrick Hyder

Garrick Hyder in captaining his boat Belafonte of Santa Barbara Boat Charters.

The story of Santa Barbara Boat Charters starts with me! Diving in the Caribbean as a child opened my eyes to the ocean's beauty, awe, and mystery. Three decades later and I have not forgotten the magic of that first snorkeling trip; swimming with sea life and eating fresh fish.

My love and reverence for the Channel Islands was born when I went to Catalina Island for summer camp at age twelve. I was amazed with the ocean's vivid living organisms and began to daydream of Jacque Cousteau, Charles Darwin, and the Galapagos. I was hooked! Dreams eventually became reality and today the Channel Islands are my home away from home. When I'm not running charters, I'm usually out there with friends, diving, hiking, hunting, fishing, and surfing.

My niche is teaching and sharing the language of the ocean. I'm passionate about ocean exploration and love providing an outdoor and aquatic lense to my customers. The Channel islands offer sights people fly across the world to see, but they’re right here in my backyard; all within 100 miles of Los Angeles. Let's go!
